What We Know About Infiniti’s Project Black S

400 horsepower, muscular styling, and a luxurious interior, the Infiniti Q60 Red Sport 400 is a great drivers car, and now it’s just gotten better. With the help of the Renault Sport Formula 1 team, the Q60 could be receiving a performance package. Meet the 500-hp Infiniti Project Black S, a hybridized vision of what a performance Q60 could be.

At the moment, the car is only a concept, and as Top Gear reports, it doesn’t even have an engine yet. However, it is rumored to have 500-hp, and that’s definitely something to get excited about. The Project Black S features a lot of neat technology that could very well make it to production.

If it became a production car, it would be powered by a version of the same 400-hp 3.0-liter V6 found in the Q60 Red Sport 400, but that’s not the interesting part. That honor goes to an honest-to-goodness F1-style KERS system that harvests energy when off throttle to help spin up the turbo as soon as the driver goes back to throttle. The result, theoretically, is virtually lag-free acceleration.

To reflect this new, high-tech powertrain, Infiniti’s UK design studio gave the Q60 a makeover for the Project Black S too. Big fender flares house 21-inch wheels, and there’s new, functional aerodynamic pieces at the front and rear. The Project Black S also gets a titanium exhaust, and flashes of yellow paint, to highlight Infiniti’s collaboration with Renault F1.

We hope Infiniti decides to make Project Black S a reality, but for now, we’ll just continue to drool over the images.
